MEDICAL ADVICE

Bale Mountain Lodge is not in a position to offer medical advice to travellers but we can recommend the following link which has excellent advice for anyone intending to travel to Ethiopia:
http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/africa/ethiopia.aspx

The following things should be noted:

- Bale Mountain Lodge sits at 2380m above sea level. The Harenna Forest and Sanetti Plateau are well above the Malaria line and no malaria exists in and around the lodge or vast majority of the Bale Mountains National Park. If transiting by car to the lodge then malaria regions may be encountered as you cross the Rift Valley.

- The lodge is located below the High Altitude line of 2400m and as such there is little or no risk of altitude sickness unless you travel up onto the plateau or have a particular susceptibility to Hypoxia. If altitude sickness is experienced on the Sanetti Plateau (3500m – 4377m) then guests are advised to take lots of fluids and to return to the lodge where the effects should rapidly subside.
